Can we state Tapentadol equally as strong opioid & strong analgesic?
Tapentadol is an opioid analgesic that’s consumed orally to relieve moderate to severe pain. Just like Tramadol, it has a dual mechanism of actions - as a ยต-opioid receptor agonist and via reuptake of norepinephrine. However, its use for pain relief has brought us questions with equally surprising answers. Both analgesics and opioids relieve pain but an analgesic does so by helping the patient achieve analgesia, a state in which there’s an inability to feel any pain. Opioids, on the other hand, either temporarily affect or completely eliminate any sensation. Interestingly, Tapentadol achieves both these results which is why it’s called an opioid analgesic.
